Project goal
The SCI project aims to bolster the European steel industry
with a distributed online control system providing precise quality information for robust control actions.
Demonstrations in four industrial use-cases, focusing on tin-plate and automotive production
include automated cutting control at a tin-plate pickling line, optimized process speed control based on coil scale affection
and improved quality control at tinning and galvanizing lines through online grading and in-coil control actions.
Human oversight concepts
primarily Human-in-the-Loop (HITL), are crucial. Real-time combination of quality-relevant information, traditionally managed by operators, is complex due to increasing aspects and material specifications.

The SCI project
plans to implement an assistance system for line operators, a significant step towards operator-independent surface quality, meeting the demands of flat steel producers' customers. HITL remains essential during system design and operation monitoring in each use case.
